Mines of Yuggoth
A note from the scenario author crediting those who collaborated on the finished scenario. Under the guise of my pseudonym, Randolph Carter, I receive a particularly nice mention. (Misspelled in the credits as “Randolf”.)
Like my work on the Esoteric Order of Dagon, this was a collaboration with the European author of a fan scenario for the Mansions of Madness game. My primary contribution was to take the very basic English-language translation provided and render it into compelling, atmospheric prose that immersed the players in the world of the Cthulhu Mythos, and lent the story an edge of urgency and dread. I also provided game mechanics consultation for the project. .
Story So Far
The Story So Far introduces the scenario and sets the stage for the gameplay to follow. In its early draft the English was mostly understandable, but grammatically awkward and did not flow well. It had to be cleaned up not only from an editing standpoint, but with words that captured the author’s intent while giving it a compelling voice.
moyprologue
In the Prologue of this scenario, player choices already begin to dictate how the scenario will play out, so three separate descriptions were required, depending on where the player investigator characters were to enter the boardgame map.
MoY – Event Card
An Event card, used to pace the game and set a time limit for the players to achieve success and win.
MoY – Clue Card
A sample Clue card, discoverable by investigators when searching a room in which the clue is seeded.
MoY – Board Card
A sample card from the scenario, reflecting a discovery made during a room search by an investigator.
MoY – Shizophrenia Card
A card given to an investigator character who has suffered psychic damage during the game scenario, measured by Horror points sustained from various monsters or events.
